Holiday Greetings from the 1802 House Bed and Breakfast

Greetings from Kennebunkport!  It’s cold up here in Maine.  We’ve just wrapped up Christmas Prelude, guests are heading home to celebrate the holiday’s with their families.  We’re preparing for our winter break and some much anticipated time off.  I’m feeling sentimental and thought it was a nice time to stop and reflect.  Here goes!  Amaryllis, Christmas decorations, snow man and sleigh bells.

This is the end of our seventh season as owners of the 1802 House Bed and Breakfast and I find that I am thinking a lot about how fortunate we are to have the opportunity to do this for a living.  Owning an Inn was always a dream of mine.  Roger’s a good sport and has gone along with it!  We are so lucky that the perfect Inn for us was in Kennebunkport, Maine.  Even though we had never been before, we have fallen in love with this place.  One of the reasons is the location.  It is indescribably beautiful here along Maine’s coast.  Every season brings something lovely to appreciate, but check back with me in April when we’re still shoveling snow and I might not be so cheery then.

Another reason we feel so settled here is the community.  Kennebunkport, and for a large part Kennebunk as well, is a small business community.  We’re mostly privately owned and working hard to ensure that this area remains a great place to visit.  For such a small town, we have an abundance of really great restaurants at every price level.  50 Local in Kennebunk is a year around favorite.  The best cosmos and fish and chips I’ve ever had.  On the Marsh is a lovely romantic setting anytime of year.  Pedro’s is a must for the nachos and margarita’s.  Ole!  Old Vines Wine Bar is tapas style small plates and a firm locals favorite.  Just avoid January when the owners take the whole staff on a cruise.

Merchandise featuring stickers and other pet items.

The little shops are a bit on the touristy side some of them, but not all.  Finding gifts for the people in my life is a breeze here.  Farm + Table is a mecca for all things food related.  Scalawags This and That for Dogs & Cats in Dock Square for the animal lovers and Port Canvas in Lower Village for Maine Made totes, duffels and more.

Finally, when I think back on our time here, I am so thankful for the wonderful guests that we have met.  So many of you come back again and again and we really enjoy welcoming you back.  Others are here for a once in a lifetime trip and we are so happy to be part of your memories of a Maine holiday.  So many of you have shared your honeymoons, anniversaries and birthdays with us.  And you have all been so kind and generous with your comments and praise.  Thank you so much for choosing the 1802 House!  It is our pleasure to have you stay with us.

Happy Holidays everyone.  We wish you a New Year filled with love, happiness and good health.  Hope to see you again soon!

Best wishes,

Teri & Roger
