We’re quickly coming up on the end of the Fall Season, and what an amazing season it was. Leaf Peepers were treated to a glorious display of Autumn colors!
Kennebunkport and Maine’s Southern Coastal region are the last in the state to hit peak for leaves changing color. There was some concern this year that our drought conditions would impact on the quality of the leaves and the duration of the season. That was not a problem though! There were beautiful yellows, oranges and reds to be seen anywhere that you visited in the Kennebunks this year. A particular favorite was along the Kennebunk River on Ocean Avenue. Looking across the water to the trees on the Franciscan Monastery side was amazing. And a few of our lucky photographers were able to capture that postcard perfect photo of the trees reflected on the water. Add a couple of boats to that scene and you’ve got the stuff that Autumn holidays in Maine are made of. We welcomed visitors from as far away as Singapore this month, many who only learned after they arrived that they are affectionately known as leaf peepers. We’ve posted a truly gorgeous photo taken by our friend Bob Dennis to give you a feel for what we’re talking about in case you weren’t able to visit to see for yourself.
The sun is sitting lower in the sky now. We’re still hitting warm temperatures in the 60’s and even 70’s, but the evenings are feeling quite cool and those beautiful leaves are starting to drop. So, we’re turning our sights towards winter time and all the wonderful things that come with this upcoming season here in Kennebunkport.
While our guests are enjoying their evenings in front of the fire, we are starting to dig out the Christmas decorations so we can get the Inn dressed up for Christmas Prelude. That’s right. The Christmas Prelude kickoff is Friday, December 2, 2016……six weekends away!
Once again, the 1802 House Bed and Breakfast will be participating with the other Historic Inns of Kennebunkport in an Inn Tour on Sunday, December 4th, 2016 from 1:30 to 3:30. It’s a great chance to tour the Inns and see them in all of their holiday splendor. Tickets are $10 with all of the proceeds being donated to our local food bank. We are also continuing our Prelude tradition with the Walk to Bethlehem on Saturday December 10th, 2016 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Join Mary and Joseph as they try to find a room for the night. Caroling and hot chocolate and cookies in the manger! We’ve added something new for those of you who will be in the Kennebunks mid-week. Please join us for our Candlelight Tours on December 6th, 7th and 8th for another chance to tour the Inns. Tickets are only $5 and again, all proceeds will go to the local food bank. Loads more to see and do during Prelude so more to follow as we get nearer the time.
We hope that you had a good autumn as well and best wishes for the upcoming holidays!
